"Every boy in this land grows to be his own manIn this land, every girl grows to be her own woman
Come with me, Take my hand, and we'll run
And you and me are free to be you and me"new seekers | freeAlmost every bride I know says it.
"I want our wedding to be personal -
I want it to be us."
This wedding, for Natasha and David, that I shot last year has got to be one of the most unique and "us" weddings I've ever witnessed.

Cotton bridesmaids dresses from Target,khaki-colored bridal gown,felt-and-button-bouquet...

Somehow this quirky, excited, talkative couple managed to create a wedding that was completely personal and unique - just like they themselves are :D
(ps. Isn't Shade Tree and Evergreen a LOVELY venue? Um, I'll answer that. It is.)

It seriously looked like Candyland.

(one of the few black-and-whites from the day...How can you hide ALL that color?! haha)
I was very inspired by this (as well as most!) couples desire to be unique, and personal."Free to be you and me!"They didn't conform to the box of "this is what a wedding should be like."They made up their own rules.I personally don't want a candy-themed wedding, but I love that they did it,because that was them.
And that's what they wanted.Bravo, Natasha and Dave.
Your wedding was beautiful, well-executed and so happyily fun. You've inspired me to make my website just as personal,in my own Kristen way ;)
So, folks, leave me a comment:What do you think is something quite "you" about yourself.
A freckle, a taste in music, a favorite pair of shoes, a hair-style, a color...It can be anything! Just let me know! Rah! Rah!
And you could receive a $25 giftcard to spend on Y-O-U!

Gorgeous! I love all the moments you captured.
ReplyDeleteI love blues and my style is a quirky mix of vintage/retro and modern. Cottage Chic meets Minimal styles. For clothing and decor AND blog design. But that's okay. Because I kinda like it. Because, well, its kinda me. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the moments you captured!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, by the way! The candy theme is darling. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures!
ReplyDeleteSomething very me is my love of books... and I LOVE going somewhere like Panera to just read (although that doesn't happen a lot now I have my daughter). So good.
these colors are AWESOME! so fun. :) amazing job as always!
ReplyDeletea very me thing is valley speak. i am a girl who likes to speak in valley.
Purple is so me. I love the color and almost everything I own is that color. Everyone who knows me well just associates that color with me. So, as crazy as it may sound, purple is so me.
ReplyDeleteI love those photos! They are beautiful and looks like such a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteWell, to be honest I guess I'm a bit mainstream. I like traditional weddings. I love the symbolism and the graveness of the ceremony and every part of it. What's the most unique thing about me? I guess it might be that, while I'm only 19, nearly all of my best friends are older than their mid-30's- my parents, and two of my best friends who also happen to be my boss and cross country coach. They all have so much wisdom and encouragement for me. And even though (especially in high school) when people thought it was a little weird, I wouldn't trade it any day
Something me..hmm. Probably bright orange tye-dye knee-high socks. Which go fabulously with my blue shorts. :)
ReplyDeleteI have this hat. It's called a cap-sac. It's a fanny pack for your head and I love it and I wear it at any opportunity I can. My first present to my boyfriend was a cap-sac and we're DEFINITELY going to incorporate them into our wedding somehow :)
ReplyDeleteIf i had two words to describe me... they would be... dancer & photographer.
ReplyDeleteI have been a dancer since i was 7, and no matter where i go these days, if there is music playing, i cant help but move my feet.
also, i've always loved imagery and photography is the most epic way i know of to express that love. I get more joy out of a photoshoot than i do out of pretty much anything else (other than dancing...)
speaking of beautiful imagery... this candyland wedding is GORGEOUS! i love it!
Something that is "me" would be a love of old/ old fashioned things. Whether pictures, museums, moments in history, classic movies and music.
ReplyDeleteSomething that is very "me" is my red hair. I know I'm not the only person in the world with red hair, but it is part of what makes me different, part of what made my husband fall for me (he had the biggest crush on Anne of Green Gables growing up, how adorable is that?!), and one of my favorite things about how God created me. :)
ReplyDeleteSwing dancing is something that I've discovered is quite "me" about myself. (And I get to share it with someone else who's "quite me" attribute is swing dancing too! :) Pretty wonderful, if you ask me.)
ReplyDeleteI feel like a contradiction. And I love it. From Pride and Prejudice to Mountain Biking I love so many things and have such a wide range of interests. Tee shirts to my favorite: LBDs =) That's me!
ReplyDeleteI feel like a contradiction. And I love it. From Pride and Prejudice to Mountain Biking I love so many things and have such a wide range of interests. Tee shirts to my favorite: LBDs =) That's me!
ReplyDeletemy obsession with the movie Rocky. I love it the best. i am known for loving Rocky
ReplyDeleteI love how this couple truly went their own way. Very inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteSomething unique about me is what my bestie calls my "three-tiered laugh" When I laugh, it's usually loud, I end up crying laugh tears, & and bend over in "three-tiers."
You kinda have to see it to know what I mean, but it's become well-known among my friends :)
these pictures are fabulous!!!!!!!!:) hmmmm, something that is "me"? I think I'm going to have to say converse, cardigans, and cropped pants...and red hair...and the "freckle" beside my eye that people use to distinguish me from my twin sister!:) Have I mentioned how awesome this contest is????!:)
ReplyDeleteanything quirky and fun. mostly i am thinking of the color yellow, vintage prints, paper lanterns, and fabric flowers. :D
ReplyDeleteFor my wedding, I am saving all the rose petals from the roses my dad gives me for various occasions (birthday, valentines day, etc)throughout my life up until my wedding day. I collect them in a beautiful glass pitcher that sits in my room. I love that I think ahead with things as little as the flower petals I will walk over as I walk down the aisle to my husband. I don't know who that man will be yet, but he'll be pretty special :)
ReplyDeleteI'm the only person I know that doesn't really like icing. I used to eat my cake and leave the icing shell...and my mom would make me special cupcakes with no icing for my birthday so that everyone else didn't have to suffer. I wish that I didn't like all sweets, but alas, this seems to be the only sweet thang that I avoid!
ReplyDeleteSomething that has become me is my LOVE for orange. Epsecially orange poppies. They make me so happy.
ReplyDeleteThat is a preeeetty cool wedding. Wow. :D
i have been told that I am quite unique. i like being fun and quirky, i just say and do things with no rhyme or reason. In a good way I'm just crazy. (ps Kendra introduced me to your blog and contest.)
ReplyDeleteMy long curly brown hair, frequent use of dictionary.com, and love for spicy curry!
ReplyDeletegee this is sorta a hard question: i think that the fact that i love so many different things is something unique about me. i'm kinda all over the place sometimes - cooking school, mary kay, writing, loving kid fiction but also really good literature, decorating in my own style, my ipod playlists are of every type of music, i don't have one style of dress, and the people i love are all very different from eachother, i would love an island getaway or a historical tour in a museum, i love a clean house but often find myself totally unorganized... don't know if that makes sense, but there you go....
ReplyDeletesomething that i love doing is at night - when it's not freezing outside, i'll open the window beside my bed really wide and put my head on the windowsill for a while, just feeling the breeze and smelling the dirt and listening to the night sounds. it really puts me in a good mood for sleep. :)
ReplyDeleteThe first thing that comes to mind is pale, vintagey blue. It is just me, everything that is that color calls me: clothes, shoes, cars, stationary, tea pots, paint. You name it. If it's in "my" color I guarantee that anyone who knows me will say "Lydia"!
ReplyDeleteCombine that with antique cream lace, pale pink peonies and tarnished silver tea pots and you've got my dream wedding :-)
These shoes are the essence of "me" http://www.polyvore.com/loris_shoes_sole_chicago_progetto/thing?id=1300950
Classic books :)
ReplyDeleteBooks and reading....thats me! and im thankful that i married a man who loves those same things!
ReplyDeleteI love everything being clean and organized. I can be quite OCD sometimes and always love cleaning and organizing other people's houses for them. It's so satisfying. =) I also love athletic activities (esp. with teams). You're getting exercise AND you're having fun. haha
ReplyDeletei love flats (as in shoes).. i always wear flats!
ReplyDeletelaura
info@laurabarnesphoto.com
physically, it's my ONE dimple. I've always thought dimples were adorable...and then when I was 10 I discovered that I had one! it's way more unique than having twin dimples, I think. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the color Orange so bright, fun and happy! laughing is one of my favorite things to do & i'll take being barefoot any day over wearing shoes!& don't forget dancing in the rain! :)
ReplyDeleteMy purple polka-dotted rain boots and colorful array of notes taken in class.
ReplyDeleteSomething about me that I think is unique is the variety of music, books, TV shows, and overall entertainment that I like-which probably shines light to my overall personality.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...well, my love for all things Civil War is definitely "me!" (So much so that I'm writing a HF novel about it. =D Yep!)
ReplyDeleteI laugh and smile ALL the time. I feel like it's a gift from God. I like it :)
ReplyDeletemy quirky list of christmas songs...love them!
ReplyDeleteIt may sound lame, but the thing that is most "me" is my name. My name is Bronte (with two dots over the "e"). Bronte is unique, old-fashioned and as my little sister just said, "pretty and sophisticated" (hey! I'll take the compliment!) So yes. My name is most me. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is one GORGEOUS wedding you've shot there, Miss Kristen! The colors are so fun and their personality just shines through every detail!
ReplyDeleteAs strange as this may sound, I think underdogs are very "me." I very passionately and consistently root for the underdogs. The kid in the corner with no friends, the horrible team who loses every game, people with just hard circumstances and everything going against them - I thoroughly love, and I mean absolutely LOVE, rooting for them and being on their side. I find so much joy in encouraging them and reminding them that SOMEONE believes in them.
Hmmm, well I have three brown dots in my right eye, so I like to say I have my dad's blue eyes with three brown sparkle's from my mom. I also LOVE the mountains... and vintage. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would say something that is really me is my weird sense of humor - I'm very spacial (see images in your mind when you hear something instead of seeing words) so if I'm really overtired and somebody says something even remotely amusing I'll crack up in hysterics and there is a good possibility that it will turn into an actual cartoon someday:D
ReplyDeletei love to sing...not that unusual in and of itself, but i love to sing very very high, and belt it at the top of my lungs while driving with the windows down. and i get strange looks, but it's totally me, and i love it!
ReplyDeletehmmm.... well, i'd absolutely have to say it's my pickup truck. i've dreamed of having it since i was little and finally that dream came true about 2 years ago :) i'm a small red head gal who drives a big black 4x4 F-150 truck... country all the way... on and can't forget my boots too!
ReplyDeletesomething that is really me is my hair... i'm african american and started wearing my hair naturally (as in, without a relaxer... as in, curly, not straight) and now i'm learning to embrace my kinky curly hair.
ReplyDeleteI love the color red. Absolutely love it. My bedroom is a collection of redness. Red makes my insides happy. I love red...more than most people. :)
ReplyDeleteProbably that I've got two very distinct sides to me:
ReplyDelete1. Total goofball/silly song maker-upper/crazy dancer who marches to the beat of her own drum, and always has.
2. Insanely organized and color-coded nerd, who loves lists (for Christmas this year, four different people got me decorative post-it pads for my list making - Haha! They know me well.).
Also I love that I have a Q in my name! It's not a very common name letter. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
I have this thing about painting my nails...they have GOT to have a coat of color on them. At all times. It's a little OCD on my part. And, might be better labeled under the "Mis-Haps" post!
ReplyDeleteSomething very me is my love of lemons and scarves... I love them separately and what they represent. Class, summer, modern, girly... How delightful! :)
ReplyDeleteanything pink! I have 4 vera bradley purses in the pattern cupcakes pink, my laptop case is pink. My bed is pink polka dots and a pink curtain, pink boxes on my cube bookcase from ikea, pink rug. 50% of my closet is pink and the dishes in my hope chest are pink!
ReplyDeletethis is def the hardest contest question for me so far. I've been thinking long and hard. I think I'm pretty plain jane (and I'm ok with that) :)
ReplyDeleteI guess my obsession to stay warm would be unique. I seem to always be cold, even with layers of clothes! Two of my fav gifts given to me by my hubby: a really nice electric blanket and a remote starter for my car (which he installed), so I can warm it up before getting in!
Having to wear socks all the time :) weird, but I can´t stand going barefoot lol
ReplyDeleteEasy one! I am DISNEY!! Disney clothes, Disney purses, Disney keychains, Disney art, Disney trivia, Disney annual pass holder, Disney, Disney, Disney! My favortite park is Disneyland! My favorite place to vacation is Disney World. Where am I going tomorrow? You guesed it!! :)
ReplyDeleterandom assortment of things: wearing dresses and huge flower headbands, my retro pastel kitchen, hydrangeas, cupcakes, my blue eyes, farmers markets, determination, pottery mugs, my honda FIT. :)
ReplyDeletei would lovvveee to have my wedding this way!! a+ pics!!!
ReplyDeleteEasy one! I am DISNEY! Or rather, "Disney is me!" Disney clothes, Disney purses, Disney key chains, Disney trivia, Disney art, Disney annual pass holder! Disney, Disney, Disney! My favorite park is Disneyland! My favorite vacation place is Disney World! Guess where I'm going tomorrow?
ReplyDeleteI am extremely laid back and my wedding will have to reflect that. Partly because I love the idea of a happy, carefree party and partly because there's no way I could deal with the drama and pressure of a big church wedding - I'd probably collapse in a puddle of tears. :-)
ReplyDeletei think i'm getting old or something because the idea of ME is so much less interesting these days. I used to be very hung up in my identity. Maybe it's because I married a man so different than me who challenges me to question why I hang on so dearly to preferences.
ReplyDeleteBut to play along, the only thing I can think of would be red tulips. no surprise there. :)
One thing that is very "me" is my love of Beauty and the Beast (the Disney movie and Broadway show). As a child, I used ot walk around reading all the time, so my dad called me Belle. When I was in college, I worked at the Broadway theatre where B&B was playing, selling roses and silly plush dolls, and managed to see the show a zillion times in the process. When I got married, I based my wedding dress and hair on Belle, carried roses, and our first dance was to the theme song sung by by dear friend. It always has and always will be something very dear to who I am.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE all the color in your post... Something about me... I love purple... :) anything and everything with a modern/retro twist.. and my Coffee :)
ReplyDeleteI have a strange love for long socks that no one else can understand, and for some reason feel the need to wear them with every outfit I own...whether they are striped, polka dot, or bright bright orange. Right on there with shorts and flats. Very attractive. =P But, you can't deny what you love, eh? Sometimes personality is more important than fashion. At least, that's what I try to tell myself when ever I get an odd look from the attractive guy down the grocery isle.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that is very "Me" is the fact that I am half Korean and half Irish. Yes, it's a different mix, but I feel like it makes me unique from others.
ReplyDeleteI think something that's 'me' is the need to write. The insatiable, continual desire to put pen to paper and make thoughts stream across the lines. Love.
ReplyDelete"very me"? My curly bangs! I like them even the rest of my hair decides not to curl :D
ReplyDeletePretty photos, Kristen! Thanks for having such a fun contest, too!
one huge thing is that i absolutely love love LOVE blue and white stripes. i own two blue and white vertical striped dresses and I want to wallpaper my bedroom to look like this -- http://www.designspongeonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/heartgarland7.jpg
ReplyDeletei also wear peacock rainboots and a yellow pea trench coat. yeah... you don't see those too often. ;)
My weird expressions and quirky sense of humor are me...those little idiosyncracies that make friends raise an eyebrow and say "only you, Allison, only you" :)
ReplyDeleteI love craft and working with my hands. The craft that I enjoy the most is Blacksmithing. I have a forge at my home and I really enjoy working in it :D People so are surprised when I tell them because I am a girl! {I really like the looks of surprise on there face} :D
ReplyDeleteit might sound silly, but bobby pins are such an important part of my life. I wear sparkly colored ones all the time, sometimes with my hair all done up, sometimes to keep out of the way when I run, or sometimes to clip back my bangs. They are one tiny thing that adds a lot to my life!
ReplyDeleteSomething very "me" is that I love anything related to the 1940's era: clothes, hairstyles, makeup, swing dancing, music, movies. If I were born in a different era, the 1940s would definitely be it!
ReplyDeleteWhat is me? Laughter. I love to laugh and I love to smile and the only thing better than laughing and smiling is laughing and smiling with others :)
ReplyDeletea cup of coffee, a good book that i've already read ten times, and a corner in a coffee shop. That is something that "me."
ReplyDeletelaughing... it is the funnest most me thingy ever. loove to laugh. and chickens. chickens always make my day. and my baby camera. yesss that is MEME. :)
ReplyDeletewow. i sound super obsessed with me. hahahaha
Me? Let's see...
ReplyDeleteI can gleek on command, quite far too! :)
My love of English breakfast tea & French bull dogs.
And I always set my morning alarm to go off at a time that always ends in 7 (ie: 5:47, or 7:07, etc...) Don't know why, I've just done it for years haha!
i have to say...the ME thing about...me...is that i like tea while doing school :) its awesome...and its ME.
ReplyDeleteahhh! Love that wedding!! =)
ReplyDeleteWhat's me? Welllll... flipflops. Ice cream cones. Sunflare. The ocean. Big open fields. Green grass. The stars. Country breezes. I guess you could just sum it up in saying the beach and the country!
Ummm.......I guess my height :) I'm not even 5ft tall hahaha.....I'm like 4'11" .......but hey that's what makes me unique :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this wedding! This is so the kind of wedding I want to have. ♥
ReplyDeleteMy obsession with trying to use proper grammar, my wanting to watch an action flicks over romantic ones, the fact that I can't live without my flats, my love for music form the likes of John Mayer and Michael Buble... these are just a few things that I feel make me, me.
I love the colors!
ReplyDeletesomething me...that God has given me such a big heart for people. I can't get enough of them! they make me smile and laugh and giggle & feel so so blessed. I enjoy community and spending real, quality facetime with people:)
ReplyDelete
